British Columbia - 17 weeks
Alberta - '16 weeks after 52 weeks of employment
Saskatchewan - 18 weeks (after 13 weeks of employment)
Manitoba - '17 weeks after 7 months of employment
Ontario - 17 weeks (Qualifying period is 13 weeks prior to estimated delivery date)
Quebec - '18 weeks or 15 weeks / 5 weeks or 3 weeks Under QPIP: Choosing special plan increases benefit amount but decreases the time period of the claim. Maternity leave totals 18 weeks under basic plan and 15 weeks under special plan. Paternity leave totals 5 weeks under the basic and 3 weeks under the special plan.
Newfoundland and Labrador - '17 weeks after 20 weeks of employment. Same if adoption
New Brunswick - 17 weeks Nova Scotia - '17 weeks after 1 year of employment Maximum combined pregnancy/parental leave is 52 weeks. The longer period of parental leave applies if maternity/pregnancy leave is not taken.
PEI - '17 weeks after 20 weeks of employment Maximum combined pregnancy/parental leave is 52 weeks. In PE, an extension of 5 weeks is available if child has condition requiring parental care.
NWT - 17 weeks after 12 months of employment Maximum combined pregnancy/parental leave is 52 weeks. The longer period of parental leave applies if maternity/pregnancy leave is not taken.
Yukon - 17 weeks after 12 months
Nunavut - '17 weeks after 12 months of employment Maximum combined pregnancy/parental leave is 52 weeks. The longer period of parental leave applies if maternity/pregnancy leave is not taken.
