Alberta - 3 days 


Saskatchewan - 5 days - Employees with three months of continuous service or more are entitled to five unpaid days of bereavement leave for the death of an immediate family member. The leave must be taken within one week before or after the funeral.  


Manitoba - '3 days (if employed for at least 30 days) 


Ontario - no minimum standard applies 


Quebec - '1 day / 4 days One day with pay upon the death or funeral of his or her spouse (“consort”), child (including a spouse’s child), mother, father, brother or sister that occurs on a working day. The employee may also be absent from work without pay for four more days on such occasions. 


Newfoundland and Labrador - '2 days unpaid / 1 day paid plus 2 days unpaid For employees employed for less than 30 days: 2 days of unpaid leave in the event of the death of a spouse, child, mother, father, brother or sister, grandparent, grandchild, mother-in-law, father-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, daughter-in-law or son-in-law. For employees employed at least 30 days: 1 day of paid leave and 2 days of unpaid leave. 


New Brunswick - 5 days 


Nova Scotia - '5 days - Five days on death of a spouse, child or ward, or parent/guardian, grandparent, grandchild, sister, brother, mother-in-law, father-in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law or brother-in-law 


PEI - '3 days - One day of paid leave and two days of unpaid leave upon death of the employee’s immediate family. Up to three days of unpaid leave for death of extended family member.  


NWT - '3 days / 7 days - Length of the leave is 3 days if the funeral/memorial service takes place in community where the employee lives. If the funeral/memorial service is outside the employee's community, leave is 7 days. 


Yukon - 7 days Nunavut - 'no minimum standard applies
